A sewage backflow caused the Tinian Health Center to temporarily close for non-emergency services on Wednesday.

Henry Ernie U. Hofschneider, resident director of the Tinian Health Center, said the building, which is already 28 years old, now has problems with its own septic system.

The sewage backflow happened late Wednesday morning, which forced the cancellation of meetings and other non-emergency services to patients.

But even early that morning, the smell of sewage was already noticeable within the health center, according to sources. Others initially thought the smell was from reagents or chemicals.

The sewage backflow was fixed a few hours later.

In related news, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. on Tinian received a call of “low pressure to no water” at the Tinian Health Center yesterday morning.

But according to Edward Quichocho, resident director of CUC Tinian, when utilities personnel visited the health center, “everything was okay on our side.”
