Tudela presents new resource on how to stay fit and healthy
At his recent trip to Washington, D.C., for the U.S. Conference of Mayors during the U.S. presidential inauguration week, Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela met with Dr. Ian K. Smith, creator and founder of the 50 Million Pound Challenge, who made video presentations and excerpts to Tudela on how people can better control their health, lose weight, and get invigorated to maximize the opportunities that life offers.
As a medical doctor, Dr. Smith is famous for his Million Dollar Challenge initiative. He gladly offered Tudela his “shovel ready” project for Saipan residents who may be interested in controlling their weight, eating healthy meals, routine daily exercises, and yearly visits to one’s doctor for physical checkups.
“I wanted to send you a quick note of thanks for allowing me to present to you and the other municipal staff members my 50 Million Pound Challenge during last week’s conference,” Dr. Smith said in a letter to Tudela this week. “Too many of our loved ones have lost their lives too early or are suffering unnecessarily from medical complications that stem from being overweight or obese,” Dr. Smith said.
Tudela is a member of the Health, Education and Welfare Committee of the U.S. Conference of Mayors for the past six years.
The Office of the Mayor of Saipan is a community partner with the Department of Public Health, the Head Start Program and health providers in the private sector locally. The office also has sponsored walk-a-thons and health checkups in the past to bring public awareness of the importance of daily exercises by walking and running, and other form of physical activities.
Tudela looks forward to introducing Dr. Smith’s 50 Million Dollar Pound Challenge to the people of Saipan. Weight watchers and health-conscious residents may now log on to www.50millionpounds.com and get more information on how to stay fit and healthy. (PR)
