Finance stuns NMC in women’s softball
Finance caught a big fish in the league-leading Northern Marianas College, pulling off a come-from-behind 18-10 victory in the women’s division of the 2008 Inter-Government/Business Slow-pitch Softball League Monday night at the Capital Hill Ballfield.
Bego Camacho allowed only two hits and the rest of Finance’s defense shut out NMC in the last three innings to record an upset.
Finance now has a 5-4 record moving up from third to second place, while NMC is still on top of the field, but dropped to an 8-2 slate. NMC absorbed its first lost at the hands of Commonwealth Utilities Corp. last month, 9-10.
NMC seemed headed for its ninth win leading by seven, 10-3, after four complete innings, when Finance started its comeback bid at the top of the fifth scoring five runs.
At the bottom of the fifth, NMC’s first three batters were beaten to first, while Finance added seven more runs at the top of the sixth to take the lead, 15-10.
NMC lost its chances to regain the lead when the best it could do in the last two innings was to reach second base.
Lilian Aguon had five RBIs for NMC after going 3-for-5 at the plate, while Pauline Tudela was perfect at bat going 3-for-3 and making three RBIs. Four players added two RBIs apiece.

POI improved to a 6-6 record, while DLNR dropped to a 6-7 slate after scoring only at the bottom of the fifth inning.
POI started slow with only one run in the first two innings, but made a six-run top of the third and closed out with 10 runs in the last two innings for an easy win.
Shortstop Kyle Kaipat went 4-for-4 at bat and scored three runs, three doubles, and three RBIs. Centerfielder William Sablan had four RBIS and was 3-for-4 at the plate.

In the other men’s match, Docomo won a high-scoring game against P&S, 27-20.
Docomo shut out P&S in the last two innings to preserve the win.
After trailing by 12, 9-23, after four complete innings, P&S rallied with an 11-run top of the fifth. But P&S failed to complete a big comeback, as Docomo’s defense tightened up in the last two innings allowing only one hit.
