Marianas Pacific District Inc. recently introduced into the local market two new beer products that originate from two European countries: Beck’s from Germany and Stella Artois from Belgium.

The official launching was done Thursday night last week at the lobby of Hyatt Regency Saipan with some of the hotel’s club members and friends.

Marpac sales manger Melvin Tenorio said the two new beer brands have been in the market for two months now.

“Beck’s is the No. 1 selling German beer in the world and Stella Artois is the best selling Belgian beer in the world. They can be bought at the Joeten Supermart and we’re planning to make them available in some of the bars and stores but as of now the outlets are limited,” Tenorio said.

He said a lot of people on Saipan are beginning to recognize the new beers, which both come in green bottles.

Stella Artois has been brewed in Belgium since 1366, using only natural ingredients and traditional brewing process. It is slightly stronger, with an alcohol content of 5.2 percent.

Beck’s Pilsner, which won gold medals from the American Tasting Institutes in 1999 and 2000, has a slightly fruity but firm crispness that ends with a clean, dry finish. It has about 5 percent alcohol content.

“We received a lot of good feedback and so we continue to carry on. This is part of expanding our product lines aside from the Budweiser from the U.S.,” Tenorio said.

The price per bottle at the hotel is $6.50 for both Beck’s and Stella Artois but both will be cheaper at stores.

“We’re trying to bring in new brands because we want to satisfy the demands of the local consumers. Saipan is a small demographic area but any small consumption is important to us so we will continue to bring in more domestic consumption,’” Tenorio stressed.

MARPAC thanked Hyatt for its continued support of its products and its decision to make Beck’s and Stella Artois available for its guests.

“We also want to thank them for providing us the awesome food,” Tenorio said.

Hyatt’s Food and Beverage Director Ranjeet Rajebhosale said the launching of a new product is being done at the hotel on a regular basis.

Beck’s is featured this week for the annual German Food Festival from Feb. 16-21 at the Hyatt’s Kili Restaurant. The festival will highlight German food, sausages, cheese, beer and other selections.

“So this launching of the two beers is the right timing,” Rajebhosale said.
