OPA hiring 11 auditors, other senior employees
The understaffed Office of the Public Auditor is now in the process of hiring 11 employees.
Among those needed are four audit managers, three senior auditors, two audit supervisors and two audit managers.
OPA has advertised the positions on its website, www.opacnmi.com/jobs.html.
Currently, OPA has only 18 employees, including eight auditors, four investigators, a legal counsel and an investigator assigned to a local task force on government corruption, another legal counsel and three administrative staff.
Public Auditor Michael Pai earlier said OPA is authorized to have up to 30 fulltime employees.
OPA offers auditors an annual salary of $33,000 to $42,000, depending on the candidate’s qualification. They are to perform assigned financial, operational, compliance audits, and other engagements. OPA auditors are also required to conduct or assist in preliminary surveys, prepare audit programs, determine audit procedures to be used, and perform various audit assignments or special audit projects, among other things.
Auditor applicants must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a non-accounting bachelor’s degree, plus one-year audit or accounting experience.
Also needed are senior auditors, with an annual salary of $37,000 to 46,000, depending on the applicant’s qualification. A senior auditor plans and executes assigned financial, operational, compliance audits and other engagements, as well as leads other audit staff on a project basis or as requested. Among the qualifications needed is a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a non-accounting bachelor’s degree, plus six years audit or accounting experience.
OPA offers $43,000 to $54,000 in annual salary to audit supervisors, depending on the applicants’ qualification. An audit supervisor functions as lead or specialist with ongoing responsibility for planning and supervising the work of other auditors, and/or contributing technical expertise in a specialized area, and plans and executes sensitive and/or more complex assigned financial, operational, compliance and/or information systems audit, among other things.
Candidates for audit supervisor are required to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus eight years audit experience.
OPA is also looking for audit managers for an annual salary of $50,000 to 60,000, to manage internal audit activity under the direction of the public auditor, and plan and supervise work of other auditors. Candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus 10 years audit experience.
