Man accused of twice raping neighbor gets 63 days in jail
A man accused of raping a neighbor twice that resulted in serious injury to her rib cage was sentenced to 63 days in jail.
Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona sentenced Rolando Pascual Mangalinao to one year in prison, all suspended except for 63 days, for assault and battery.
Following a plea agreement, Manglona gave the 35-year-old Mangalinao credit for the 63 days he already served in jail.
Manglona placed the defendant on one year of supervised probation and ordered him to pay a $100 annual probation service fee, $25 court assessment fee, and a $50 fine.
The judge required the defendant to write a letter of apology to the victim of at least 45 words, which must state the illegal acts and apologize for those acts.
Mangalinao is prohibited from possessing or consuming any alcoholic beverage during his probation period.
The defendant and his counsel, assistant public defender Richard Miller, signed a plea agreement with the government represented by chief prosecutor Kevin Lynch.
Mangalinao pleaded guilty to assault and battery in the second amended information. The remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea bargain.
In July 2008, police arrested Mangalinao on allegations that he raped his neighbor twice at her barracks in Tanapag.
The victim was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center after she complained of severe pain in her rib cage.
