Defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs extended its winning run to 14 games after routing Saipan Mayor’s Office, 19-2, in the 2008 Inter-Government/Business Slow-pitch Softball League Thursday night at the Capital Hill Ballfield.

DCCA’s defense allowed Mayor’s Office to score only at the bottom of the fourth inning to wrap up the game after only five complete innings.

Pitcher Mel Sakisat gave up six hits and walked three for DCCA’s easy win.

On offense, third baseman Joey Dela Cruz made two homers and recorded six RBIs, while shortstop Craig Sanchez made one homer. Sakisat also performed well at bat going 4-for-4 and recording two RBIs, while Julian Camacho was also perfect hitting 4-for-4 and adding two RBIs. Second baseman Mario Sablan was only 2-for-4 at bat, but connected on a two two-run single in the first and brought one runner home in the second.

The Jets shut out DEC/CRM in the first two innings, while scoring 10 runs to take control of the game and the former never looked back.

DEQ/CRM scored two runs at the bottom of the third with Elmer’s Sablan double driving Ed Manibusan home and Gus Pangelinan’s single bringing Sablan to home plate. DEQ/CRM’s third run was courtesy of a solo roundtripper from Loy Atalig.

Legislature 7, CUC 4

Monday night’s action in the slow-pitch softball league was marked by two forfeited games, as only Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and Legislature completed their match at the Capital Hill Ballfield.

Legislature nailed a 7-4 win over CUC to improve to a 9-5 record and take solo fifth place in the team standings.

The two other games—Commonwealth Health Center vs. Northern Marianas College (women’s), and the Beach Boys vs. No Zone—were forfeited in favor of NMC and the Beach Boys.

CHC and NMC were supposed to play in the second game at 7:30pm, but the former showed up for the game with only five players.

The same thing happened to No Zone dropping the team to a 9-4 record for a tie for fifth place with Docomo.

The Beach Boys claimed their ninth win in 12 games.

In the lone game Monday night, Legislature shut out CUC in the first five innings with pitcher Pete Towai allowing only five hits and lifting the Lawmakers to a victory.
