The investigation into the case of Filipino surveyor Alex Manga Matubis is already closed, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.

DPS said the Matubis case is considered closed after investigators concluded that the remains found in Marpi last month were indeed those of the missing Matubis and that he committed suicide.

DPS made the conclusion based on the results of the forensic examination as well as evidence gathered at the scene and interviews.

Guam forensic pathologist Dr. Aurelio Espinola conducted last Friday night his examination on the remains at the Commonwealth Health Center’s morgue.

DPS spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said yesterday that Matubis’ remains are still at the CHC’s morgue pending release by the Attorney General’s Office.

It was not clear yet whether the remains will be brought to the Philippines.

Matubis was reported missing last July 30. Last Aug. 19, investigators found his service pickup abandoned near Kalabera Cave.

The farm where the skeletal remains were found is located about a 10-minute drive west of Kalabera Cave, according to DPS. (Ferdie de la Torre)
