Large north swells will produce hazardous surf in the Marianas through Thursday and surf will be especially dangerous along north facing exposures.

Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled by the local Emergency Management Office, dangerous surf of 13 to 15 feet were expected along north facing exposures yesterday, falling to 12 to 14 feet last night and 10 to 12 feet today, Thursday. Minor coastal flooding of around 1 foot was possible near the time of high tide yesterday afternoon.

EMO said a high surf advisory remains in effect from 6pm last night to 6am Friday along north facing and west facing reefs.

The public is urged to stay away from exposed reefs and beaches, especially those facing north as rip currents will be life threatening.

In Guam, north facing exposures include Ypao, Ritidian, and Tarague beaches. On Rota, north facing exposures include Teteto Beach. On Saipan, north facing exposures include Achugau Beach. (EMO)
