The 10th Annual Crime Stoppers Softball Tournament will kick off this Friday, February 6, 6:15pm at the Capitol Hill Baseball Field.

Department of Public Safety commissioner Santiago Tudela will be throwing the opening pitch at 6:20pm. A total of 10 co-ed teams have signed up to play this year.

Last year, Wells Fargo Financial Wranglers claimed the 2008 Crime Stoppers Softball Tournament at the Dandan Elementary School Ballfield.

J.J. Laniyo played the hero’s role after he singled in a run to help Wells Fargo, formerly known as No Ka Oi, to a 5-4 win over PTI in the tournament finals to complete the Wranglers’ back-to-back title bid.

It was Wells Fargo’s fourth straight win after going undefeated in the elimination round that earned them the top seeding and first finals berth.

The Wranglers scored consecutive wins against Pacific Islands Club and United Micronesian Development Association in the eliminations, then defeated PTI in the semis to earn the first finals berth.

Technically, it was the Wranglers’ fifth straight crown since most of its members are from perennial title winner No Ka Oi. (Saipan Tribune)
