The next mixed martial arts competition on Saipan will be held on March 14 when Trench Tech holds The Art of War III at the Trench Tech Gym in Afetnas.

According to Trench Tech president and promoter Cuki Alvarez the Art of War III would be an Abu Dhabi style No-Gi tournament with six different weight classes to be contested. These are bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight, and super heavyweight.

The MMA event is a follow-up to the successful staging of Rites of Passage VI held last Jan. 24 at the Royal Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort.

Fighters may contact Alvarez or Randy Taylor for more details at 483-4MMA or 483-8670.

For the spectators, the entrance fee would be $5. They can make their early reservations now.

Trench Tech said it is expecting some 100 grapplers from around the CNMI. There would also be competitors from the Philippines.

The fights will include brown belt and black belt pairings.

The Rites of Passage VI: Conviction and the Art of War III: All-Island Grappling/Submission Challenge are just two of the big MMA events to be staged on Saipan this year.

Trench Tech promised more of these kinds of events not just for the sake of fighting but also to make friends.

“We fight to gain more friends,” he said.

Organizers have started donating some of the proceeds of the event to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
