The Department of Public Safety’s Boating Safety Section rescued two men from a stranded fishing boat west of Charlie Dock Saturday night and cited the captain for lacking a boat registration.

DPS spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said yesterday that Bernard C. Taitano, 37, and Christopher T. Camacho, 24, appeared to be in good condition.

Ogumoro said BSS officers inspected the 15-foot open motorboat and found that all safety equipment were on board.

However, there was no boat registration so the officers issued a citation to Taitano for violating CNMI Boating Safety laws.

DPS received a call of a distressed vessel west of Charlie Dock on Saturday at 6:44pm.

Investigation showed that Taitano and Camacho left Saipan to do bottom fishing. As they were about to head back, the two started experiencing difficulties in starting the boat’s engine. The two then called police’s assistance. (Ferdie de la Torre)
