Hamoy wins in Ken Phillips’ birthday bash
Chester Hamoy showed he wasn’t just a 9-ball specialist by going undefeated in USS Peleliu Club owner Ken Phillips’ birthday 8-ball tournament held last Wednesday at the Garapan sports bar and watering hole.
Hamoy marched past Annie Tesiro, Ron Chisato, and Juancho Mendoza to head the winners’ bracket, then defeated Mendoza again for the championship.
Tesiro surprised veteran Rolly Villanueva in the first round, making two hard bank shots and a difficult long cut on the 8-ball. Chisato got by Taylor Watanabe before falling to Hamoy.
Jerry Soriano ran the table on Ken Phillips and Marvin Cabo bested John Mongami, before Mendoza sent them to the losers’ bracket. Villanueva came back by defeating Mongami, then fell to Soriano.
Phillips eliminated Tesiro and Cabo. Chisato reached the losers’ bracket final by topping Soriano and Phillips, but had to settle for third place after losing to Mendoza.
Hamoy also ran away with the Tuesday 9-ball title, with Chisato taking second place.
USSP is holding weekly 8-ball tournaments on Mondays, with 9-ball competition on Tuesdays. The entry fee is $5 for both tournaments.
