Small vessels are being urged to be cautious, especially when entering or leaving harbors, due to rough seas that are expected to last until at least Friday.

In a small craft advisory issued late yesterday afternoon, the CNMI Emergency Management Office said that a weak trade-wind disturbance will bring scattered showers to the region overnight and combined seas of 10 feet or more are expected.

The advisory remains in effect from 6pm last night until 6am Saturday.

“A trade-wind surge is expected to produce winds of 20 to 25 knots and combined seas of 10 feet or more tonight through Tuesday night. Winds should decrease to 15 to 20 knots by Wednesday but seas will remain near 10 feet through at least Friday night,” EMO said, citing information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan Guam.

EMO is advising the public, especially beachgoers, fishermen, tourists, swimmers, divers, and surfers, to exercise caution along exposed reefs and beaches.
