DCCA stretches win streak to 11

Department of Community and Cultural Affairs stretched its winning run to 11 by beating the Beach Boys, 13-5, Thursday night in the 2008 Budweiser Inter Government/ Business Softball League at the Capital Hill Ballfield.

The defending champion quickly erected a commanding 7-0 lead after two complete innings with Joey Dela Cruz connecting on a two-run homerun in the first, on the way to a lopsided win.

The Beach Boys’ BJ Sablan and JR Suel also came up with two-run homers each in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, but these did not change the color of the game.

Both teams’ scored one run each in the third with Pete Camacho scoring for DCCA and Stan Aldan connecting for the Beach Boys.

But DCCA came up with four more in the fifth courtesy of Camacho, Jun Saralu, Bob Lizama, and James Fleming.

The Beach Boys had only two at the bottom fifth with Aldan and Sablan scoring.

The Beach Boys, who stayed in seventh place with a 6-3 record, scored two more in the six from Harlan Reyes and Mel Sablan, while Saralu gave DCCA its last run of the game in the seventh.
[B] POI 13, Law & Order 4[/B]

POI improved its record to 5-4 and climbed to ninth from 12th place with a 13-4 drubbing of Law & Order.

Outfielders Jun Kaipat and Kyle Kaipat led POI’s offense with three runs each.

Jun was 3-for-4 at-bat, making one homerun, one double, and one RBI, while Kyle went 4-for-4 and had one homerun and two RBIs.

Tony Lizama also helped POI in offense with two runs. He hit 3-for-4 at-bat and had two doubles and one RBI.

Law & Order dropped to a 3-7 card for 13th place.

[B]CHC 12, Hopwood 8[/B]

In the other game, Commonwealth Health Center recovered from a sluggish start to defeat cellar dweller Hopwood, 12-8.

Hopwood, which is still winless after 10 games, failed to sustain a 5-0 lead at the top of the first inning, as CHC gradually went to the driver seat, 6-5, after four complete innings.

Ben Hickings and Tom Diaz made it 8-5 for CHC after the full fifth. Mario Palacios managed a run for Hopwood in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-8, then Fred Salavera and Jun Salavaria tied the score at 8-all.

Lefty Shiro, Joe Tenorio, Tom Diaz, and John Duenas all reached home plate in the last inning, as CHC won its third game in the season after 10 outings.
