DPS honors Tenorio, 4 others for saving 3 lives
The Department of Public Safety honored Friday Department of Corrections Commissioner Lino Tenorio and four civilians for rescuing two stranded surfers and saving the life of a boy from drowning.
DPS Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela, along with Boating Safety officers, handed certificates of appreciation to Tenorio, Ray Crisostimo, Ashley Castro, Darrell Concepcion, and Patrick Aldan.
“This is the department’s way of saying thank you to these people. We gave them certificates of appreciation. I want them to be recognized. I want to thank them for saving lives,” Tudela said.
Tenorio and retired U.S. Army reservist Ray Crisostimo rescued stranded surfers Nicolas Swaim and Kristina Springer outside the reef line of Sugar Dock late afternoon of Jan. 3.
Castro, Concepcion, and Aldan saved the life of a 3-year-old boy who nearly drowned at PauPau Beach in San Roque on Jan. 18.
Tenorio said he is very grateful that Tudela is aware that there are people in the community who needs to be recognized for the good deeds they’ve done.
“I’ve done this [rescue] many times and there hasn’t been any recognition in the past. But for this very special moment, I thank the commissioner and the Boating Safety staff,” Tenorio said.
Crisostimo said he is elated that he was part of the recognition ceremony. “ I always feel that it is a duty to assist a citizen when they are in danger,” said the retired military man.
Castro said she is just so overwhelmed and happy with the DPS recognition.
“And I am happy that the boy is safe now,” said the 16-year-old Marianas High School student.
Concepcion, 26, and Aldan, 16, said they feel good with the recognition. “I’m surprised that they gave me recognition,” Concepcion added.
Last week, DPS also honored three civilians who assisted Boating Safety officers in rescuing five persons, including two minors, from a sinking boat near Managaha last Dec. 26.
