WASHINGTON, D.C.—The House Armed Services Committee recently met to formally organize, choose subcommittee assignments, ratify committee rules, and finalize its oversight plans for the 111th Congress.

Guam Rep. Madeleine Z. Bordallo was selected to serve on the Military Personnel Subcommittee and was also reappointed to serve on the Readiness Subcommittee.

As a member of the Military Personnel Subcommittee, Bordallo will oversee policy regarding military personnel, reserve integration and employment, military health care, military education, POW and MIA issues, as well as Morale, Welfare, and Recreation policy and programming. Her position on the Readiness Subcommittee will allow for continued oversight of the military buildup in Guam, National Guard and Reserve equipment readiness issues as well as the Department of Defense’s environmental programs.

“I look forward to working on the Readiness Subcommittee and Military Personnel Subcommittee to promote policies that improve the readiness and quality-of-life for our men and women in uniform,” Bordallo said. “My work on the Readiness Subcommittee is important to ensuring the success of the military buildup in Guam. The Readiness Subcommittee under chairman Ortiz’s leadership recognizes the importance of continued oversight of the buildup to ensure the best outcomes for our island. The Personnel Subcommittee has oversight of pay, health care and force structure issues. I want to ensure that our servicemembers and retirees are provided with the quality of health care that is commensurate with their service to our nation. I also want to ensure that our National Guard and Reserves are postured to meet all their missions.” (PR)
