We have overcome!
In the ’60s, civil rights activists sang, in unison, We Shall Overcome. Beginning on Jan. 20 of this year, this once hopeful cry for justice has changed to “We Have Overcome”. Indeed, on the steps of the Capitol stood a man whose story “reflects the enduring promise of our country” after 233 years. He’s a powerful and persuasive communicator in extraordinary times of economic and foreign crisis, instilling hope in the multitude that, with collective resolve we can rebuild a brighter tomorrow for our country and posterity.
In this connection, I say with unequivocal pride “Hail to the Chief” for encouraging fellow countrymen to morph from fear to hope. Hail to the Chief for slamming the brakes on a highly destructive and defective U.S. Public Law 110-229. Thank you Mr. President for your vision to ensure that policies depict the true sentiments of our people. My personal gratitude for the hopeful opportunity you’ve given us in participatory democracy and inclusionary assimilation in the formulation of policies emanating from Washington. Yes, we will sail the across the Pacific in search of equal representation for we deserve nothing less.
Finally, while most fellow Americans now celebrate “We Have Overcome”, ours has just begun right back at square one: We Shall Overcome! We deserve equal representation over the indignities we have had to endure willed to us by the arrogance of the “we few”. Help us get there too, Mr. President. Si Yuus Maase`!
