PSS sets Islandwide Science Fair
The CNMI Public School System will be hosting its 2009 Islandwide Science Fair from Jan. 30 through Feb. 1, 2009. The fair will showcase budding public school scientists from Grades K to 12 who will prepare, present, and defend their projects. Students are invited to submit their projects to their respective science instructors. Each public school may only register five of their school level winning projects.
Projects will be placed in one of four categories: (1) Life Science; (2) Physical Science; (3) Earth and Space Science; and (4) Health/Nutrition/Medical Science. Student participants will compete in five grade cluster groups:
(a) Level 1: Grades K-1
(b) Level 2: Grades 2-3
(c) Level 3: Grades 4-5
(d) Level 4: Grades 6-8
(e) Level 5: Grades 9-12
Outstanding individual science projects will compete at the Guam Science Expo. To compete in the PSS Islandwide Science Fair, each student participant must fill out and fax a copy of the PSS Islandwide Science Fair ’09 entry form on or before Jan. 28, 2009, to 664-3941.
The public is invited to an Open House on Jan. 31 beginning at 1:30pm. An awards ceremony will be held on Feb. 1 from 9am to 12pm. The Marianas High School Gymnasium has been chosen as the venue for the fair.
Projects will be judged and rated based on scientific criteria, creative ability, understanding, clarity, creative ability, understanding, clarity, and dramatic value, and technical skill. Projects must also meet guidelines established by the Science Fair Committee. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B]
