Beginning tomorrow, students at Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School will be experiencing longer school days.

School has been extended for one hour and will now end at 3:20pm, said acting GTC principal Charlotte Camacho.

The extension is initially to make up hours missed for Education Day, which took place in November.

But the new hours will last for the rest of the school year in order for the students to finish classes by May 30. The other public schools are scheduled to end the year in the middle of June. GTC will end earlier in order to begin termite treatment on some of the classrooms, the principal said.

The additional time will make a long day, Camacho said.

“It’s going to be a long day. We’re telling parents please make sure they eat that breakfast and have a snack,” she said.” We are going to make sure they’re eating their lunch. I know it’s going to be an adjustment,” adding that teachers will also feel the change. New buses are supposed to be arriving soon, so students will be able to use those, she said.

There is a change that the funding will not come through for this school year, and, if that is the case, Camacho said she would revert to the old schedule. She should know by the end of the month.
