Camacho remains on top spot of pitching category

Freedom Air’s Roque Camacho remained the king of the mound in the ongoing men’s division of the 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League.

Camacho in 29 innings pitched in five games and recorded 1.69 ERA. He allowed 21 runs, gave up 38 hits with only seven of them were earned. As a starting pitcher for Freedom Air, Camacho held a perfect 4-0 record.

Pitching leaders as of Jan. 9, 2009, were based on 13 or more innings pitched.

In second place was Department of Community and Cultural Affair’s Mel Sakisat (3.92 ERA), followed by the Beach Boys’ Steve Igisair (4.38), No Zone’s Carl Hocog (4.48), Legislature’s Perru Besong (4.62), Commonwealth Ports Authority’s Ed Mendiola (4.74), Public School System’s John Terlaje (4.78), P&S’s Mike Sablan (5.25), Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s Frank Shiro (5.25), and Joeten Jets’ Shine Tenorio (5.32).

Esang Olkeriil posted the most strikeouts as of last week with 15, while three players made 13 strikeouts apiece.

The batting race, which was based on 16 or more times at-bat, had a new leader in No Zone’s Ned Norita, who averaged .762 after going 16-for-21.

In second place was the Beach Boys’ B.J. Sablan, who went 19-for-25 (.760), followed by Docomo’s Payton Sakuma (.739), Freedom Air’s Roy Celis (.714), and the Jets’ J.J. Laniyo (.708).

Rounding off the Top 10 were POI’s Tony Luzama, DCCA’s Joey Dela Cruz, CPA’s Mel Manahane, Freedom Air’s Reno Celis, Legislature’s Tony Celis, DCCA’s Jun Saralu, the Jets’ Ben Taisacan, CPA’s Jack Diaz, DCCA’s Mel Sakisat, and DLNR’s Paul Lisua.

Dela Cruz scored the most runs with 20, while Laniyo had the most doubles (8), Taisacan made the most triples (4), and Byron Kaipat recorded the most homers (9), and RBIs (26).

The women’s division had the same leaders in DCCA’s Bert Camacho (batting), and Bego Camacho (pitching).

Bert had a batting average of .708 hitting 17-for-24. Keeping pace with Bert was Finance’s Liz Lebria, who went 16-for-24 for a batting average of .667. DCCA’s Antonette Laniyo placed third with her .619, followed by NMC’s Angela Ngirbedul (.571), and Bego (.571).

Making it to the Top 10 were NMC’s Joyce Taro, Finance’s Lilian Pangelinan and Lenise Kapileo, DCCA’s Jenny Teigita, Finance’s Lilian Aguon, DCCA’s Erica Tenorio, Finance’s Julie Guerrero, NMC’s Kuki Pangelinan and Pauline Camacho, and Finance’s Pauline Tudela.

The runs and homerun leader was also Bert, who had 15 runs and two homers. Also making two round-trippers were Ngirbedul, Kuki, and Lebria. Other leaders were Jenny Palacios (two doubles), Ngirbedul (13 RBIs), and CUC’s Dolorina Panuelo (19 strikeouts).

Bego posted a 2.48 ERA to lead five other pitchers. Bego played seven games and had a 3-4 record. She pitched 45 innings, allowed 82 hits and gave up 62 runs, only 16 of them were earned.

Bego finished ahead of two NMC pitchers—Polly Omechelang (3.85 ERA) and Felisa Brel (4.03).
