Saipan Health Fair set Jan. 31
Several activities are being organized for the community in observance of the ongoing National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
Culminating these different activities will be the Saipan Health Fair on Jan. 31 at the Garapan Fishing Base, starting at 7am until 1pm.
Every Saturday beginning Jan. 7, celebrity baggings will be held at all Joeten Supermarket locations and Dolphin Wholesale, where children and their families will enjoy a lot of fun.
Also every Saturday, listeners of three radio stations—Power 99, 101.1 FM and Magic 100.3—can answer trivia questions and win exciting prizes.
On Wednesdays, the public can join the candle light health walk from 5pm to 6pm.
There will also the Cervical Cancer Awareness Roadside Waving on Jan. 30 at the Commonwealth Health Center Children’s Clinic.
This activity is set at 4:30pm to 5pm.
The public is advised to visit the education booths located at various government and private agencies around the island.
The education booths include informational materials about the need for women to undergo cervical cancer prevention methods like the Pap Smear Test.
Data shows that cancer is the second leading cause of death in the CNMI women and third for men.
According to the 2008 health data report that was released in December by the Department of Public Health, there is a high rate of cervical cancer in the CNMI.
The report said that every seven weeks a woman in the CNMI is diagnosed with cervical cancer.
