Paperless CUC billing
I wish to make a public comment on the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. I have been on island for very few months, but I am concerned that the CUC is squandering valuable funds in the billing and collection of charges for utilities use.
I was in the Joeten Dandan CUC Office today and was told by a clerk there that it is impossible for CUC to send billing statements by e-mail or to pay by Internet. I took a quick glance around at the office and counted eight computer consoles in the customer service area alone. The postage required to notify utilities customers has to add up to some significant number of dollars each month. How can this entity accept a credit card payment in one room and deny the use of the same type of technology in notifying customers of their bill? If only a fraction of the islands’ residents chose the “Green Method” of paperless billing, perhaps the savings could go toward an upgrade to the generators and infrastructure which fail almost daily. The reduction in physical face-to-face transactions could help the CUC staff to become a bit more efficient in handling those customers needing service. Maybe CUC could even use the cash to buy renewable energy producing equipment, such as solar panels and wind generators.
This time of global economic hardship that we are all experiencing calls for innovating thinking and sensible change. Perhaps my opinion will be heard in this venue. Thanks for you consideration.
