The Navy Hill Basketball League kicked off its inaugural season last weekend with MBI and Dollar Days downing separate foes at the Navy Hill Basketball Court.

Dollar Days and Team Yellow dueled in the opening day of the league Friday with the former nailing a 99-86 victory.

Ivan De Vero and Kae Bernardo led Dollar Days’ debut win combining for 50 points with the former firing 29 markers and the latter adding 21.

Jeremy Tamayo and Wowie Abuel also finished in double figures chipping in 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Leo Factor paced Team Yellow with his 25 points, while Mike Olaitiman contributed 23. Bernard Montano had 16 and Gil Gapor added 13.

Team Yellow was still in the game in the first half, as Dollar Days led by only seven, 55-48.

But with Bernardo and De Vero hitting their marks, Dollar Days pulled away en route to a 13-point win.

In Saturday’s game, MBI eked out a 79-72 victory over Inchcape.

Bing Marasigan drilled 14 of his 18 points in the second half, while three players combined for 18 points in the same period to preserve the lead and the win.

MBI had the driver’s seat at halftime, 37-32, with William Opone anchoring the team’s attack scoring 10 points. He was the lone double figure scorer for MBI in the first half, but his seven teammates also made it into the scoreboard to lead Inchcape by five at the break.

Opone was held to two points in the second half, but Marasigan, along with Dan Mateo, J.R. Barrios, and Ernie Moises, made timely baskets to keep MBI in the lead.

Games in the inaugural Navy Hill caging are played every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Only one match is played per playing day starting at 4:30pm.

The league was supposed to begin its season last Thursday, but organizers cancelled the opening due to rain.
