Habitual offender back in jail for using fake money
Habitual offender Lucas Taitano Manglona is back in jail after he allegedly purchased a pack of cigarettes and a lighter at a store in San Vicente, knowing that his $50 bill was counterfeit.
Manglona, 21, was arrested Tuesday for theft by deception. He was taken to the Superior Court yesterday morning for a bail hearing.
Superior Court Associate Judge Perry Inos imposed a $250 cash and $250 unsecured bond for the defendant’s temporary liberty.
Detective George David stated in his report that on Monday afternoon the Department of Public Safety received a disturbance complaint at a compound in San Vicente.
David said responding police officers learned from witnesses that the call was a family dispute between Lucas Manglona and his brother, Nestor Manglona, over many issues.
Lucas Manglona claimed that his brother has been dealing in illegal drugs and has knowledge of stolen property.
Lucas Manglona also disclosed that a few days ago his brother showed him a bunch of rolled up cash that were all counterfeit. Lucas Manglona said he was given a fake $50 bill that he used to buy food.
The defendant said his brother gave him another fake $50 bill on Monday, which he used to buy a pack of cigarettes and a lighter at the Nang Ocha Store in San Vicente.
The detective said a police officer proceeded to Nang Ocha Store where he was able to confirm that there was indeed a fake $50 bill in the cash register.
Police arrested the defendant after a store employee identified Lucas Manglona as the one who used the fake money.
According to assistant attorney general Edward T. Buckingham, the defendant has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for robbery, theft, attempted rape, aggravated assault and battery, and burglary.
