Bank joins college scholarship program

[B]HAGATNA, Guam[/B]—For the sixth consecutive year, the Bank of Guam is offering local high school seniors an opportunity to apply for up to $5,000 in grants through its participation with the 2009 Education Exchange College Grant Program.

Totaling $50,000 in grants nationally for 2009, the Education Exchange Program is open to all college-bound, high school seniors graduating this year. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and able to provide written acceptance to an accredited four-year college by May 15, 2009. Other information includes an official copy of the high school transcript and two letters of recommendation.

Applications are available at all Bank of Guam branches, and have been distributed to Guam’s high schools.

Students must mail their completed applications and supporting documents directly to the ACCEL/Exchange Network in New Jersey. The application package must be postmarked not later than March 16, 2009.

A total of four $5,000 grants and 30 $1,000 grants will be awarded by July 2009.

Under the ACCEL/Exchange Education Exchange Program, a total of 7 Guam students have been selected in the national process for a total of $11,000. In 2008, 2 Academy of Our Lady of Guam students each were awarded $1,000, while in 2006, three Guam students were awarded a record $7,000.
