Two batches of students to take part in Japan exchange programs
Two batches of junior high school students on Saipan will be going on a trip to Japan next month for an educational exchange program, the Office of Mayor Juan B. Tudela announced yesterday.
Interested students may inquire about these trips at the Mayor’s Office. The deadline for application is tomorrow, Jan. 15.
The first trip, Feb. 1 – 5, will be under the the Novo-Ribetsu program. It will be composed of eight students and two chaperones. The students should come from Hopwood, Saipan Southern and ChaCha Oceanview.
However, if no students from these schools apply, students from other schools on Saipan could replace them.
Four students have already confirmed to join this trip, which will be the second year of the program.
The second trip is called the Sanpo-ren, to be held in Nagoya on Feb. 9-15.
The Mayor’s Office said it is looking to send 16 students and four chaperones, who will come from different junior high schools.
The deadline of submission of applications is also on Jan. 15.
Just last month, students from Japan participated in a two-week long educational exchange program on Saipan.
The Japanese high school students, who came from different schools in Tokyo, lived with local foster parents during their stay here.
There were seven students and one chaperone that visited the island from Dec. 25 to 31.
The students enjoyed Chamorro entertainment, learned a lot about the islands’ history and its tourist sites, and experienced the local culture and its people.
Tudela said some of students cried as they were about to leave and begged to be allowed to stay longer.
