The 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League played its last game at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield Monday night and Commonwealth Utilities Corp. made it a memorable one stunning the then undefeated Northern Marianas College, 10-9, in the women’s division game.

League coordinator Liz Palacios said all games at the “Tan Ge” ballfield are suspended starting tonight, as the facility will undergo renovations.

“We will move all the games at the Capital Hill Ballfield,” Palacios said.

CUC shut out NMC in the last three innings to eke out a one-run win. CUC gained its third straight win in seven games, while NMC absorbed its first loss in eight matches.

NMC was still ahead after four complete innings, 9-7, when CUC pitcher Dolorina Panuelo allowed only three hits, walked two, and struck out three in the last three innings to steal the win.

CUC grabbed the lead at the bottom of the fifth inning with Panuelo, anew, at the forefront of the team’s juggernaut. She connected on a two-run single driving Evelyn Kani and Cristina Philip home and tying the game at 9-all.

Catcher Mel Camacho singled bringing Jenny Palacios home and putting CUC in the driver’s seat, 10-9.

At the top of the last inning, Edwina Baulechong led off for NMC, singled, but was later beaten to second base.

Connie Camacho was next at-bat and walked, while Panuelo struck out third batter Tracy Uchau.

Kuki Pangelinan batted fourth and hit a line drive, but Kani, who replaced Palacios at shortstop in the fifth inning, caught the ball to end NMC’s winning run.

PSS 19, PIC 14[/B]

In the men’s division game, Public School System snapped its three-game losing skid with a 19-14 triumph over Pacific Islands Club.

PSS improved to a 3-6 record, while PIC dropped to a 2-7 slate.

A six-run bottom of the sixth allowed PSS to thwart PIC, which was down by only two runs, 11-13, after five complete innings.

PIC’s chances to steal the game disappeared when it scored only one run at the top of the sixth and two at the top of the last inning.

Outfielder Derrick Aughenbaug and rightfielder Asap Ogumoro went 3-for-3 for PSS.

In the last game of the night, Docomo pounded Pacific Oriental, Inc., 24-5.

Payton Sakuma starred in Docomo’s easy win hitting two homers and recording seven RBIs.

Shortstop Tyrone Omar, outfielder Kuich Damian, and third baseman Gloyd Martin had one homer apiece in Docomo’s sixth win in 10 games. Damian and Sakuma both went 4-for-4 at-bat for Docomo, while first baseman Luis Ngiraikelau was also perfect going 3-for-3.

Docomo started the game with an eight-run top of the first and never looked back from thereon.

POI scored only in two innings making two runs in the first and three in the fourth inning.
