Recognition of good service

Our transformer blew this week. CUC linemen responded quickly to assess the situation to find the transformer had to be replaced.

That was bad news indeed. That meant no power all night. Used to the blight of CUC and its problems, I waited to see what would happen.

It was Christmas all over again for me when I found out they informed their manager they were going to proceed with the transformer replacement. Here’s the fun part. The road to my house is almost as steep as the one to heaven. It was pitch black, one CUC pickup had one hand-held spotlight and there is only one bucket truck for the entire island. Yes, it really did take four guys to do the job. They managed to get the truck up my road, worked with ropes and pulleys to bring down the damaged transformer and hoist the good one using manpower (no power winch), worked diligently and methodically to install this equipment. It was awesome to watch. Okay, so I am easily entertained. I, however, do not take power for granted anymore, and I am totally impressed by these linemen who were absolute professionals in their work.

We want to recognize Jason Reyes, Mike Kukkun, Leeroy Greenman, Oscar Babauta, Jr., our heroes for restoring power that fateful night. I also want to recognize Aldrin Oikang for making sure the old transformer is disposed of properly by removing it from our premises, as it should be. Last but not least, I want to thank their manager, Gary Camacho, for making himself available when such incidents occur.

This is what I pay taxes for.
