Trench Tech lines up six events for 2009
Trench Tech promises to continue feeding the island’s seemingly insatiable taste for mixed martial arts with six events lined up in 2009.
Its president Cuki Alvarez said no-holds barred action inside the octagon returns on Jan. 24 when Trench Tech holds Rites of Passage VI: Conviction at the Trench Tech Gym in Afetnas.
Like previous stagings of Rites of Passage, the sixth edition of the MMA event will feature up-and-coming young warriors who want to test their MMA skills in front of a smaller crowd and see whether they could make it to big no-holds barred fights inside the octagon.
On March 14, Alvarez and company will then host The Art of War 3 also at the Trench Tech Gym. The grappling and submission challenge gives MMA fighters an opportunity to go back to basics.
Next in the 2009 calendar of Trench Tech will be Rites of Passage VII: Fists of Fury on May 23 at the Trench Tech Gym and like Rites of Passage VI: Conviction, rookie warriors who win get the chance to earn an invitation to a full-fledged MMA event like Trench Warz.
Incidentally, the Commonwealth’s first Trench Warz event of 2009—Trench Warz X: Collision—is set on July 18 at the Royal Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort.
Like previous Trench Warz editions, Trench Warz X: Collision is expected to attract the who’s who of MMA not only on Saipan but in Guam as well.
The Art of War 5 returns to the islands on Oct. 10 at the Afetnas venue followed by Trench Tech’s yearend Trench Warz XI: Fearless scheduled on Dec. 6 also at the Royal Taga Hall.
Trench Tech finished 2008 with a bang with its staging of Trench Warz IX: The Annihilation last Dec. 13 at Saipan World Resort.
The Annihilation saw Marianas Elite’s Kelvin “The Big Hit” Fitial defeat Spike 22 Guam’s Reuben “The Booben” Quinata in the main event.
The semi main event, meanwhile, had Myron “The Natural” San Nicolas of Marianas Elite get the better of Team Predator’s “Brutal” Bryson Sablan.
Tara “The Tarantula” Namauleg, for her part, outpointed Jenipy “So-High La” Sambile in the islands’ first ever MMA female fight. The jam-packed crowd was also treated to eight other action-packed MMA fights.
