Extended hours OK’d for sale of liquor
Just for today and the early hours of tomorrow, establishments on the island that serve alcoholic beverages will be allowed to extend the sale of liquor up to 4am of Jan. 1, 2009.
The extension will apply only to Class-3 on-sale license holders and does not allow any further expansion of the extended hours, according to a Commerce Department notice issued yesterday.
The time extension is being provided in accordance with 4 CMC, Section 5556.
These extended hours are only for the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, until 4am on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.
“In addition, in observance of the National Drugged and Drunk Driving (3D) Prevention Month, all Class-3 retail dealer on-sale establishments shall exercise responsible alcohol sales and shall encourage their patrons to drink alcohol responsibly during the extended hours of operation,” said Commerce Secretary Michael J. Ada.
“Any abuse of the extension will not be tolerated and shall result in permanent suspension of such privilege,” he added.
