The general managers of various hotels on Saipan served food to the man’amko and later dined with them during an annual Christmas party held yesterday at the Hibiscus Room of the Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan.

Lynn Knight, newly re-elected board chairwoman of the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, said the lunch buffet is an annual treat for the elderly, “a way of respect to them.”

She said it is a time for the GMs and some of the hotel industry’s executive officers to cheer the island’s elderly in this holiday season.

It is also a part of HANMI’s community projects. Knight pointed out that, despite the present difficulties the islands are experiencing, the hotel industry is united when it comes to giving back to the community.

“It has become a traditional part of our group, like the annual HANMI golf tournament, with the proceeds being for the benefit of the man’amko because they have become so special to us and we have been doing this for a long time,” said Knight.

Office on Aging director Howard I. Macaranas and man’amko program coordinator Walter Manglona thanked the hotel managers for their generosity.

Macaranas, together with Teresita Sorroza, secretary of the Senior Citizen Advisory Council; Man’amko Queen Rosalia Sablan and Man’amko King Felipe Santiago, presented a plaque of appreciation to HANMI. Knight received the plaque on behalf of the hotel managers.

Macaranas said that HANMI’s continued support and contribution to the senior citizens remind them how fortunate they are to have such good friends.

“We recognize you for all the years of commitment and support that you have given to our senior citizens. Your spirit for the holiday has brought us and our seniors more hope for a better holiday,” Macaranas said.
