Raphael Zapanta still had the last laugh in this year’s Bing Energy Drink Prince/Princess of the Lanes competitions.

As if his eight monthly awards were not enough, the bowling prodigy added the December plum to his collection outclassing six other participants in Saturday’s roll-offs at the Capital Bowling Center in Garapan.

The December win allowed Zapanta to rule the monthly roll-offs for three straight months. His longest winning streak in the Prince/Princess of the Lanes competitions this season was four topping the same event in May, June, July, and August. The Saipan Southern High School student also ruled the February and March editions of the roll-offs for an unprecedented 9-for-12 performance in a season.

The weekend tournament was among the closest wins for Zapanta, who prevailed by only three pinfalls against runner-up Leanne Yarobwemal.

Yarobwemal seemed headed for an upset when she took a 41-pinfall lead against Zapanta after three games, 495-454.

The lady kegler posted the best score in Game 1 with her 169 pinfalls, slowed down a bit in Game 2 (152) before playing her best round in Game 3 (174).

Zapanta recorded only the second-best score in Game 1 (163), was four pinfalls behind Yarobwemal in Game 2 (148), and had his lowest output in Game 3 (143) putting his winning run in danger.

But Zapanta still had weapons left in his arsenal, showing his best form in the last game knocking down 193 pins. He downed 45 pins more than Yarobwemal (148) for a four-point winning margin, 647-643.

Coming in third was Marion McKenzie (534), followed by Nikko Gutierrez (487), Marcel McKenzie (482), Troy Verdaguer (476), and Toby Verdaguer (364).
