Simon, Emi win last roll-off of 2008
Simon Manacop and Emi Williams finished the year with a bang after winning the December Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament last Sunday at the Capital Bowling Center in Garapan.
Manacop won his fifth monthly competition of 2008 following four 200-plus rolls last Saturday.
The Department of Public Safety officer started off on the right foot, tattooing 203 pinfalls in Game 1. He followed that up with 212 and 221 in the middle games before capping his impressive run with a 225 to finish with a four-game total of 861—good for a 215.25 pinfall average.
The former youth bowler also took the men’s plum in March, June, September, and October.
Perfect gamer Dannie Robles came in second after coming up with a four-game series of 822, built around rolls of 170, 247, 182, and 223, for 205.5 average.
Jorge Soledad was a mere two pins shy of Robles’ output with his 820 total and 205 average. He rolled a four-game series of 240, 201, 211, and 168.
Manacop, Robles, and Soledad pocketed $100, $50, and $30 for their efforts.
Williams, meanwhile, won her third straight Queen of the Lanes following victories in the October and November editions of the competition.
The veteran kegler withstood a challenge from a vacationing Jerrie Vales after scoring a pinfall total of 722, which allowed her to average 180.5.
Williams blasted 200 pins in her first game, then rolled 193, 153, and 176 in the last three.
Vales, meanwhile, put together games of 163, 177, 160, and 189 to come away with a 689 total and 172.25 average.
Lala Taitano came in third with her 677 total and 169.25 average—built around a four-games series of 180, 167, 191, and 139.
Williams earned $60 for her victory, while Vales and Taitano took home $30 and $20, respectively.
The December King and Queen of the Lanes drew a total of 41 entries—24 men and 17 women. It was organized by the Saipan Bowling Association and sponsored by MARPAC.
