Saipan Little League Baseball president Mike Borja is calling on all coaches and managers of teams participating in the 2009 season of the SLLB to attend a mandatory meeting this Saturday at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The meeting is set for 9am with SLLB officials and representatives of each team expected to discuss the final details about the preparations for next year’s SLLB competitions.

Also, team managers and coaches are asked to submit at the meeting the league’s requirements, such as copy of rosters and waiver forms

The 2008 season of SLLB will start early to accommodate additional teams and to give Saipan Little Leaguers more time to prepare for the district and regional tournaments.

Instead of the usual opening in February, SLLB is eyeing to kick off the 2009 season on Jan. 10.

The SaipanCell Patriots are the defending champions in the centerpiece Majors and will aim for their fourth title in a row. Three other teams will attempt to defend their titles, namely the Kagman Lion Hearts (Junior League), Jets (Senior League), and Tanapag Falcons (Big League).

Borja said if they start the league on January as set, they are hoping to end the season mid-May and proceed with the CNMI District Tournament, which Saipan will be hosting in June.

After the district meet, which will feature the All-Star teams from Saipan, Tinian, and hopefully Rota, the CNMI bets will go to Hong Kong for the Junior, Senior, and Big League divisions of the 2009 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament late June. Indonesia will host the Majors qualifier.

Teams that will win in the regional meet will compete in the World Series.

Last year, Saipan swept the district meet, but only the Big League All-Stars competed in the World Series in Easley, South Carolina and came home winless in the tournament.
