Christmas Island Relay set for Saturday
This Saturday is the perfect time to get rid off those extra pounds gained from the holiday season, as Northern Marianas Athletes hosts the 2008 Christmas Island Relay.
The 13.7-mile long relay race will start at Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio and will end at the Last Command Post in Marpi.
Interested participants can compete in the solo and team division races.
Registration fee for solo runners is $10, while each member in the team event will only pay an entrance fee of $5.
Members will alternately run each mile from PIC to the Last Command Post. Teams are responsible for providing transportation to and from every mile marker.
Three runners are expected to complete three miles each, another will run 2.7 miles, while the fifth member will cover the remaining two miles.
The race will start at 6am, while registration will begin at 5:15am.
More than 70 runners joined last year’s event with the Jacque Wonenberg-led We Are Legend finishing the race in one hour, 33 minutes, and four seconds.
Joining Wonenberg on the team were Nate Mateo, Matthew Mancao, Reylynn Sapong, and Ken Yoshimoto.
Team SaipanCell of James Lee, Yvette Bennett, Keone Chariton, and brothers James and Joe Villacrusis timed in at 1:43.16 to place second, while a team composed of Nora Ada, Lynn Tenorio, Robert Torres, and Michael Villagomez came in third with a time of 1:50.14.
