Accrediting team completes EUCON site visit
A visiting accrediting team is pleased with the progress EUCON International School has achieved in the last few years, the team liaison said yesterday.
Jeff McCann, staff representative for Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, said the five accrediting team members looked at 15 areas of the college during their five-day visit. There were seven key areas evaluated, such as governance, finances and academic programs.
Although the final decision will not be announced until April, McCann said he could say the team was impressed with the progress the school made since it was given pre-accreditation status in November 2005.
College officials were well prepared and provided the necessary documents for evaluation, he added.
The TRACS team presented EUCON officials with recommendations to improve on before the April decision, said Christian Wei, president of EUCON. An example of an improvement could be increasing the number of textbooks for a major.
The recommendations and suggestions allow the school to know where they need to improve, Wei said.
McCann said accreditation is important for several reasons: It is used as a prerequisite for Pell Grants and student loans; assists with the transfer of credits; assists with pursuing graduate work; gives the school recognition; and provides accountability.
McCann is the vice president of Piedmont Baptist Bible College in Winston-Salem, NC. The other members of the team included: David Owen, President of Pacific Islands Bible College in Guam; Joseph Paturi, President of Temple Baptist Bible College in Cincinnati, OH; William Smallman, Vice President of Baptist Mid-Missions in Cleveland, OH; and Michael Windsor, Professor of Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Virginia Beach, VA.
TRACS is approved by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized institutional accrediting agency and also recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
