No Masters stint for CNMI keglers

Team Saipan players failed to reach the Masters competition of the 22nd Asian Inter City Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Macau Bowling Center after none of them cracked the Top 16 in the All Events.

At the end of three days of competition, Percy Omechalang wound up in 51st place with 3,395 pinfalls in the All Events following rolls of 1,087 in the singles, 1,194 in the doubles, and 1,114 in the team, good for a 188.61 average.

Ador Dimaano was the second best Saipan bowler of the tournament finishing in the 58th spot with 3,338 pinfalls and 185.44 average. He rolled 1,080 in the singles, 1,126 in the doubles, and 1,132 in the team.

Jorge Soledad came in at No. 68 with his 3,241 pinfalls and 180.6 average built around 1,039 in the singles, 1,036 in the doubles, and 1,166 in the team.

Ross Zapanta saw action in only two of the three categories because he had to fly back to Saipan. He led the team in the singles with 1,174 and had 1,095 in the doubles for a 189.08 average—also tops in the team.

The qualifiers for the Masters competition are Kim Young Pyo of Daegu (3975), Brian Manibusan of Tamuning (3,964), Kong Byoung Hee of Uiwang (3,852), Kim Jong Hyun of Daegu (3,812), Lee Tae Ju of Daegu (3,809), Michael Tsang of Hong Kong (3,804), Won Joong Moon of Uiwang (3,804), F.J. Lim of Sham Alam (3,794), Perry Ko of Kowloon (3,776), Henry Hui of Kowloon (3,767), Daniel Choi (3,757), Lee Dong Hee of Pohang City (3,728), Jonathan Duenas of Tamuning (3,726), Choi Moung Gu of Pohang City (3,725), J.D. Castro of Tamuning (3,724), and Eddie Lui of Kowloon (3,717).

The women’s division also had its own masters competition with Cecilia Yap of Paranaque, New Hui Fen of Singapore and Yap’s teammate Liza Clutario leading the way after finishing in the Top 3 of the All Events.

A record number of participants from 22 cities are taking part in the 22nd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship which kicked off last Monday at the 24-lane Macau Bowling Center in Taipa-Coloane.

Participating cities are Taipei City from Chinese Taipei, Tamuning from Guam, Hong Kong, Happy Valley, Kowloon, Victoria from Hong Kong, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi from India, Daegu, Pohang and Uiwang from Korea, Kuantan and Shah Alam from Malaysia, Macau, Macau Coloane, Macau Taipa, Saipan, Paranaque City and Pasay City from the Philippines and Singapore.
