Keglers close out Macau campaign
CNMI keglers wrapped up their stint in the 22nd Asian Inter City Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Macau Bowling Center Wednesday night after competing in the team event.
Team Saipan took part in the four-man team competition despite missing a fourth player, as Ross Zapanta had to catch a flight back to Saipan.
The game Saipan crew soldiered on as their scores in the team competition would be added up in the All Events category of the five-day tournament.
Jorge Soledad topped the trio in the team competition, knocking down 1,166 pinfalls in the six-game series. His score was built around rolls of 204, 243, 170, 163, 224, and 162, good for a 194.33 average.
Percy Omechelang strung together games of 156, 162, 172, 235, 168, and 221 to finish with 1,114 pinfalls and 185.67 average, while Ador Dimaano came away with a total of 1,132 and an average of 188.67 after rolls of 181, 181, 229, 199, 181, and 161.
First block leader Kowloon fended off strong challenges from Daegu and Tamuning to win the Men’s team gold medal.
Henry Hui, Perry Ko, Daniel Choi, and Eddie Lui had topped the first block with a margin of 34 pins ahead of Tamuning and got off the mark with a brilliant 846 fourth game to stretch their lead to 86 pins.
Doubles gold medalist Kim Young Pyo led his team of Kim Jong Hyun, Shin Sung Hoon and Lee Tae Ju to post 821 to move ahead of Tamuning, who shot a lowly 731. With Daegu closing in on the leaders, the Kowloon quartet felt the pressure and managed 799 allowing Daegu to close in further with a sizzling 881.
Tamuning continued to slid further away from the leading teams, while Singapore made their bid for a medal. Kowloon ended the final game with an 891 and a team total of 5,093 to take the well-deserved victory.
Daegu hung on to the silver medal with 802 in their final game for a total of 5,000, while Tamuning fought back to clinch the silver medal with 4,880.
In the women’s team event, Singapore bagged its first gold medal of the 22nd Asian Intercity Tenpin Bowling Championship also Wednesday evening.
Denise Chan Jie Lin, Darshini Krishna, Genevieve Gan Hui Ying, and New Hui Fen wound up with 4,546 pinfalls to beat powerhouses Paranaque’s 4,518 and Pasay City’s 4,504.
