Commerce to count number of FAS citizens in the CNMI
The Department of Commerce’s Central Statistics Division, in collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Interior, will be conducting a Compact of Free Association survey beginning this Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, on Saipan.
The survey, called the “2008 Survey of Compact Of Free Association (COFA) Migrants,” is intended to determine the latest total of Freely Associated State citizens who currently reside in the CNMI, which will be used to determine future Compact Impact funding for the CNMI.
The survey itself will target specific areas on Saipan and will involve interviewing housing unit occupants within selected locations. The public is asked to assist the COFA enumerators who may visit their homes in the upcoming weeks.
The Department of Commerce will be conducting this vital survey with the goal of collecting accurate information to provide the CNMI with appropriate federal funding.
“The public’s cooperation in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated, and the Department of Commerce thanks the public in advance for such cooperation and support,” the department said in a statement. (PR)
