CUC breaks into win column in women’s softball
Dolorina Panuelo sparked Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s hot start en route to lifting her team to an easy 12-2 victory over Finance in the women’s division of the Budweiser 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League Monday night at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
It was CUC’s first win in five games.
Panuelo connected on a three-run triple at the top of the first inning and CUC went on to score two more runs in that stage to take early control of the match.
Finance had only one run in the first inning with centerfielder Liz Lebria scoring on a sacrifice fly by catcher Julie Guerrero.
Finance’s other run was made in the fourth inning with Lebria anew reaching home plate on an Ema Tenorio single.
CUC continued to pile up runs, drilling two each in the second, third, and sixth. The only time CUC failed to score was in the fourth.
Five CUC batters went 2-for-3 at-bat and last year’s runner-up to defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs shot 13-for-34 at the plate for a batting average of .382.
Finance performed miserably at-bat with an average of .280 after going only 7-for-25.

SaipanCell failed to score in the third and fourth, but had six runs in the remaining three innings with leftfielder Dave Kapileo making a two-run homer at the top of the sixth.

It took PSS only a few minutes after the rain started to fall to finish off Law & Order, as the former was done after only three batters. The first two batters flied out, while a 6-3 putout play on catcher Albert Hicking ended the game in favor of PSS.
PSS improved to a 2-2 record, while Law & Order dropped to a 2-2 slate.
