Christmas in the Marianas set for Dec. 20

With the yuletide season just around the corner, the Marianas Visitors Authority, in collaboration with the Marianas Walking Association, has set the 7th Annual Christmas in the Marianas celebration for Dec. 20.
The public celebration will kick-off with a 5-km/10-km Health Walk beginning at American Memorial Park. Registration will start at 4pm at the AMP parking lot, with the walk beginning promptly at 5pm. The walking event will include a long course through Saipan’s main tourist district and along the island’s scenic beaches south to the MVA office, while the short course will take participants along the same path to Triple J Motors and back. The first 100 participants to complete the walk will get a free T-shirt to commemorate this event.
Following the Christmas walk, the celebration will continue into the night with a Christmas parade with floats, a Christmas costume show, and Christmas caroling. All the events are school competitions. The Float Contest assembly begins at the Carolinian Affairs Office grounds at 5pm, with the parade commencing at 5:30pm and heading north along Beach Road to American Memorial Park. During the parade, the floats will be judged as they pass through Garapan.
After the parade, the children will have an opportunity to strut on the catwalk as schools show off their best costumes. Schools will be judged based on originality, relevance to the theme, performance, choreography, audience participation, costume props, and recycled wear.
The Caroling Contest will officially begin at 6:30pm at the American Memorial Park and will end at 9pm.
Marianas Visitors Authority and the Marianas Walking Association invites everyone to join this year’s Christmas in the Marianas celebration and to spread the goodwill of Christmas to visitors and community members, alike.
