Isaiah lords it over Jeremiah
Isaiah ended the second round of the 2008 CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-3rd Genesis Cup on a winning note thumping Jeremiah, 93-81, Friday night CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai.
Jun Tabora and Jeremy Tamayo combined for 32 of Isaiah’s 53 points in the second half to lift their team to its fifth win in six games.
The victory moved Isaiah in a tie for the lead with Daniel. The loss dropped Jeremiah’s record to 2-4 putting the defending champion’s chances for a return trip to the finals in danger.
Only the top two teams after the three-round robin regular season will advance to the championship match. Jeremiah is in third place and must sweep its last three games to earn at least a playoff for the last finals ticket. Jeremiah should also hope only one team from the top two squads in the second round will win two games in the third round.
Jeremiah was still in contention and even led at halftime, 42-40, with Amor Casabuena, Bernard Montano, and Wowie Abuel firing 10 points apiece in the first half.
But the trio slowed down in the second half combining for 19 points. The three Jeremiah gunners were outscored by the duo of Tamayo and Tabora in the second half to hand the defending champion its fourth loss.
Tabora finished with 32 points, while Tamayo chipped in 30, making three triples in the second half.
Bart Demapan added 13, while James Wabinga contributed 11 for Isaiah’s balance offense.
Manolo Manalo paced Jeremiah with 19 points, while Montano and Abuel tallied 18 and 16 markers, respectively.
The third round of the Genesis Cup will begin this Thursday with Jeremiah and Isaiah squaring off anew. On Friday, Daniel will collide with Ezekiel.
