Keglers seeing action in Macau
The 22nd Asian Inter City Tenpin Bowling Championships got rolling at Macau, China yesterday with four veteran keglers seeing action for the CNMI.
Ross Zapanta toppled the most pins for Team Saipan in the singles competition, as he finished in 30th place in the 80-man field with a six-game series total of 1,174 pinfalls, good for a 195.67.
He started with three straight 200-plus rolls of 202, 204, 204 before struggling with a pedestrian 157 in the fourth game. The Office of Public Auditor employee, however, bounced back with 191 and 216 to finish his outing.
Percy Omechalang came in 65th with a 1,087 total and a 181.17 average built around rolls of 137, 170, 208, 179, 179, and 214.
Ador Dimaano is three spots down at No. 68 with 1,080 pinfalls and 190 average (156, 177, 158, 175, 217, and 197), while Jorge Soledad wound up in the 72nd spot with his 170, 159, 138, 172, 235, and 165 good for 1039 pinfalls and 173.17 average.
Kong Byoung Hee of Uiwang won the gold medal in the singles competition with his 1,364 pinfalls and 227.33.
Lee Dong Hee of Pohang City settled for the silver medal with his 1,324 total and 220.67 average, while Lee Tae Ju of Daegu took the bronze after knocking down 1,302 pins, good for a norm of 217.
Results for the women singles were still not available as of press time.
Competition in the 22nd Asian Inter City Tenpin Bowling Championships is being held at the Macau Bowling Center.
Aside from Saipan and Korea cities Daegu, Pohang, and Uiwang, other participating cities are Taipei, Tamuning, Hong Kong, Happy Valley, Kowloon, Victoria, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kuantan, Shah Alam, Macau, Macau Coloane, Macau Taipa, Paranaque City, Pasay City, and Singapore.
Prior to their singles competition, Dimaano emailed the Saipan Tribune about the team’s condition going into the 22nd Asian Inter City Tenpin Bowling Championships.
“Team spirit is very high and we did good in our team practice yesterday and hopefully the lane condition will be the same today which start the singles event. Ross and Jorge are playing in the morning block and Percy and myself will be in the afternoon block,” he said.
The singles competition will be followed by the Doubles today, Dec. 2. The Team of Four will be held on Dec. 3 and the Masters finals over two days on Dec. 4 and 5.
