Even a police car is not safe from burglar/s.

An unidentified person or persons reportedly broke into a Department of Public Safety vehicle that was parked at the home of a police officer in Dandan and stole the officer’s service firearm Friday morning.

DPS acting spokesperson Police Officer 2 Jason T. Tarkong said the burglar stole the black waist pouch containing Police Officer Florencio Richards’s Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun, along with its magazines and ammunition.

Tarkong said that on Friday at 11:57am, Officer Richards reported to DPS a burglary and theft incident that occurred at his residence.

Tarkong said that, according to Richards, earlier that morning he had noticed that his keys were missing so he did a search inside his residence.

Richards later noticed that the government car assigned to him was unlocked and discovered that the pouch containing his firearm and magazine were missing.

Richards reported the incident to his immediate supervisor, Sgt. Augustine Kaneshi.

Richards is currently assigned to the Crime Scene Investigators Unit as a crime scene technician.

“This case is still under investigation. The release of any information regarding this case is limited,” Tarkong said.

“We would like to ask the public with any information on this case to contact DPS at 664-9042 or call Crime Stoppers should you want to remain anonymous at 234-7272,” Tarkong said.
