Burglary, theft incidents on the rise on Saipan
Burglary and theft cases have been increasing at an alarming rate on Saipan the past several weeks.
The Department of Public Safety reported only this week a burglary and theft incident that happened at a residence in Dandan last Nov. 12.
DPS acting spokesman Jason Tarkong said Police Officer David Rabauliman, who responded to a call at a residence in Dandan, interviewed a couple who said that they have been robbed of three laptops, several pieces of jewelry, a DVD player, video games players, and other items totaling $8,000.
“There was no evidence of a break in. Officer Rabauliman learned that the main door was not locked. This case is under investigation,” the acting DPS spokesperson said.
The couple told police that they left for work that morning at 9am. The husband arrived home at 12pm that day and found his living room in disarray.
Cabinets and drawers were left open and he noticed several items were missing. He immediately called the police.
Tarkong said a crime scene technician arrived and processed the scene.
Saipan Tribune learned that the victims are Jonjie and Nhing Reyes.
The Reyes couple described the stolen items as one black IBM Thinkpad laptop; one gray Dell Latitude laptop; one white Asus Eee mini-laptop; one black portable Playstation; two portable Playstations; one pink Sony digital camera; one blue 4G Ipod mini mp3 player; one Audiovox portable DVD player in a black Case Logic bag; one Swiss Army knife; and one Gerber multi-function pliers.
The stolen jewelry include one gold baht chain necklace with “I love you” dog tag pendant; one gold ring with diamond “J” initial; one gold ring with a ruby birthstone; one gold and diamond ID bracelet with the name “Jonjie”; and one gold and diamond 48-stone tennis bracelet.
Other jewelry stolen were one Rositas ring and earrings set; one blue sapphire ring and earrings set; two while gold necklaces with pendant; one stud heart-shaped diamond earring; and one gold chain necklace.
The Crime Stoppers Program is offering up to $1,000 cash to anyone who can provide information about the Dandan burglary that will lead to an arrest.
Saipan Tribune also learned that on Thursday a room at New Century Apartment in Lower Dandan was burglarized and stolen were a laptop and assorted jewelry.
Last week, an electronics shop in Garapan was also burglarized and some items were stolen.
Last week, a restaurant employee in Garapan was also robbed by still unidentified person.
DPS has yet to release to the media information related to the three cases along with many other burglary incidents on the island the past several weeks.
