Tottots, Pats rule youth softball tourney
The Dandan Elementary School Tottots claimed back-to-back titles, while the Patriots added another championship trophy to their rich collection after downing separate foes in the 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Youth Slowpitch Softball Tournament Sunday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Tottots shut out Team Familia, 8-0, in the finals of the 9 to 12 age group to rule the tournament for the second straight time.
Dandan’s pitcher allowed only one hit, walked five, and struck out three to lift the Tottots to another title win.
The Tottots defense allowed no Team Familia runners to pass second base. Team Familia’s Jeffrey Lizama reached second base on a Dandan error at the top of the first, but failed to advance when leftfielder Cody Kaipat flied out.
In the next two innings, Dandan threw out Team Familia’s first three batters.
The Tottots scored one run in the first, two in the third, and three in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. Dandan added two more in the fifth forcing Team Familia to score at least eight runs to extend the game.
But Team Familia was not up for the challenge, as only extra hitter Ethan Lizama advanced and the team was done after only four batters.
Third baseman Jacklyn Saralu led off for Team Familia at the top of the sixth and was struck out. Evalynn Lizama was next at-bat, but flied out to right field. Ethan Lizama singled, but was stranded on first when fourth batter Frank Lizama’s line drive was caught by Dandan’s pitcher for the third out.
In the 13 to 15 age group finals, the Patriots pulled off a 5-2 win over Kagman.
The Pats, who dominated the Majors of the Saipan Little League in the past three years, fielded the core of their SLLB team in the weekend tournament to claim another title for the club.
Brian Camacho went 3-for-3 at-bat scoring two runs and one RBI. Chris Mizer also had an RBI and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Ton Salas scored the Pats two other runs on a Jared Sablan sacrifice fly and Mizer’s single, while Tre Rabauliman had one run on Camacho’s single.
Kagman made it into the scoreboard only at the bottom of the sixth inning with Ricardo Dela Cruz and Arthur Jebehn scoring one run each.
Brabu and the North All-Stars were dueling for the 16 to 18 division title yesterday, but the results of the championship game were unavailable at press time.
