Evenflow surges to second straight victory
Evenflow is on a roll at the start of the second round of the 2008-2009 World Organized Rocball Community League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The defending champions won two games in three straight playing days to boost its semifinals bid.
The second round of the Rocball league started Monday night with only nine teams left after three were eliminated. The nine remaining squads play in a round-robin second round with the top four advancing to the semifinals.
Evenflow is now 2-0 in the second round after beating the Islanders and Soul Rebels.
The defending champion collided with the Soul Rebels Wednesday night with Evenflow nailing a juiced-out 61-18 win.
Evenflow lost only the first set, 13-15, and swept the last three to foil the Soul Rebels’ bid for an upset.
The defending champions started dominating the game in the second set, cruising to a 16-0 triumph. In the third set, Evenflow was still hot, notching a 16-2 win. Evenflow capped the game with a 16-2 victory in the fourth set.
J.R. Gechig was the game’s heaviest hitter with 25 points, making seven aces, two xunks, two kees, and a goal.
Fourteen aces, four xunks, five kees, and a goal were scored in the Evenflow-Soul Rebels tiff.
Evenflow also played Monday night and posted similar juiced-out triumph against Islanders, 57-45.
Evenflow won three sets of the four-set match, bowing to the Islanders only in the third set.
The first set was a close battle with Evenflow escaping with a three-point win, 17-14.
Evenflow started pulling away in the second set recording an 18-8 victory for a 35-22 lead.
But the Islanders refused to give up bouncing back in the third set with a 15-6 victory. After three sets, the Islanders moved within four, 37-41, and must win by five points in the fourth set to steal the game.
A 16-8 victory in the fourth set allowed Evenflow to keep the win and remain undefeated in the second round.
Twelve aces, one xunk, 10 kees, and two goals were recorded in the game.
Dean Matthew and Gechig had one goal apiece, and the latter led Evenflow with 13 points on three aces and two kees.
In Tuesday’s game, Fanians walked away with a 75-40 victory over the Naturals.
Fanians won all four sets with Rex Jose and Jazz Roscow emerging as the game’s heaviest hitters with 13 points each. Jose made four kees, one ace, and one goal, while Roscow had similar performance. Larry Sharry added 10 points on four aces and a xunx.
Fanians won the first set by nine points, 15-6, and had another nine-point triumph in the second, 22-13.
Naturals played its best game in the third set, losing by only seven, 18-11. Fanians completed a shutout win with a 20-10 victory.
