GUAM—Shortly after sunset on Friday, Coast Guard Sector Guam suspended its search for the missing fisherman in the waters off of southern Guam.

However, yesterday morning Guam Fire and Rescue and Guam Police Department divers were scheduled to continue the search along the reef line and close to shore.

“Suspending the Coast Guard portion of the search was a very difficult decision for us and our prayers go out to the family,” said Cdr. Lance Rocks, Deputy Commander of Sector Guam.

Coast Guard search assets, including Navy helicopters, Coast Guard cutter Washington and station small boats, have searched both from the air and sea since early Thursday morning covering a cumulative search area one half the size of Guam.

The Coast Guard reminds boaters to keep a sharp lookout this weekend and report any sightings to the Coast Guard at 564-USCG. (USCG)
