An unidentified woman helped save the life of a man who nearly drowned at a beach near Chalan Kanoa Beach Club Sunday afternoon.

The female Good Samaritan resuscitated Renato Alcantara, a Filipino, until he regained consciousness.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said preliminary investigation showed that the 46-year-old Alcantara was swimming with two companions.

Later, the two friends noticed Alcantara floating in the water face down.

The two immediately brought the victim to shore, where the unidentified woman assisted them by administering CPR on him.

Alcantara regained consciousness. The woman then left the scene before police could identify her.

Medics transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center for further treatment and observation due to fluid in the lungs.

Ogumoro said Alcantara was released from the hospital Monday morning.

“Police also learned that, while swimming, the victim had fainted, which led to his near drowning,” Ogumoro said.
